Christmas in space

The crew of the International Space Station have been enjoying Christmas in zero gravity.

Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and American astronauts Peggy Whitson and Dan Tani celebrated with smoked turkey and candied yams.

The crew members spoke of missing their families but Malenchenko said he was looking forward to "a great holiday in space".

Peggy Whitson said:

"To all the Earth dwellers, the Expedition 16 crew wishes you very happy holiday season. Take care."

She and the others will have to wait until Boxing Day to get their Christmas presents.

An unmanned Russian cargo ship will dock with the space station with gifts as well as fuel, oxygen and food.
